How to Charge Less and Make More Money


The foremost interest of any business man is to make more money in the easiest possible way. For someone who is new in this field, raising the price of the product might seem to be the best option - the higher the price, the more will be the profit earned! But a well experienced business person will know that this is definitely not the best possible alternative as the customers tend to withdraw from buying the product if it is over priced.

On the other hand, lower prices are always able to attract the attention of the consumers. So, the strategy that one has to master is how to make more money even by charging less. Many people are not willing to cut down the price as they feel that this way they will be losing out on a part of the profit.

7 Steps to Making More Money Today


It's important to remember making more money comes in two forms:


Spending less
Making more

Each of these in turn can be broken down much further:

Spending less


Buy less
Eat cheaper
Walk instead of car/bus
cheaper accommodation
and so on....

Making more


Pay rise
Second job or working more hours
Selling items you do not need anymore
any other activity which brings in more cash then you have now

Although the two seem closely linked, it is important to remember they are DIFFERENT, proving there is more then one way to improve your situation. SO NEVER get stuck doing just one thing to improve your financial situation, there is always something else you can work on doing...

So here are my 7 Steps to making more money TODAY:

Background work

Step #1:

Know completely why you have to make more money and set yourself a target. If I find 1 Euro on the street, I am technically richer, but does that actually count as success?? Not unless I've defined what success is.

Write down the reason why you need money, make sure you are convinced of the reasons then set both a long term target (where you want to be in one year) and a short term target which should be the next 2 week or even the next month.

A target stating I want to be debt free in one year does not mean much. BE MORE SPECIFIC. State exactly how much money is needed to be debt free, what should your bank balance read in one years time and put an end date so you have a clear target.

For me:

Reasons for needing money:

1) I have no money (due to the challenge but I'm not giving up)

2) I want somewhere to live and something to eat next month.

3) I must prove it is really possible for me to make 7 figures in one year... I successfully teach students to reach 6 figures all the time, and the added challenge of starting from zero and without existing businesses can only make me grow.

What does Success mean to me:

Long term success - By January 2011 - I must turn 7 figures profit starting from nothing.

Short term success - By March 1st, I must have earned $1000

Step #2

Educate yourself.

I would not buy a car, rent a house, choose a school for a child or make any other important decision without educating myself about it.

This venture is no different. Its different territory for me. Yes, I have made money before, but doing it from nothing is a pretty big change. I can not afford to take my time, as I need to pay next months rent from my profits.

So I find cheap and easy ways to educate myself.

Today I simply searched for some blogs for people who give good advice on making money fast. Remember my target for next month is not to conduct my master plan (I need some money to get that started), its simply to make enough money to survive through March 2010.

This will help me stay focused on saving money and making money, exactly what I need right now.

Step #3

Make a list of all the skills you have that are valuable. Anything you can sell (legally) is acceptable on this list.

My quick list include (in no particular order):


Indian cooking skills
Personal training qualification
Swim teacher certificate
Business startup consulting experience
Business Process change experience
Mentoring experience
Business startup planning
Ability to turn unprofitable companies around
Social media and creative marketing solutions
My English language (living in Germany this could be useful for tutoring)
Public speaking (this used to be my best selling point but now a little out of practice)

There are some completely random things on that list that I can use to make money. The idea is to be completely open to any way to create money as that is my aim right now (I obviously excluding cleaning and ironing abilities as they are not as exclusive, however I am 100% open to those job offer too)

The Planning stage

Step #4

Start the plan.

A man without a plan, unless he gets very lucky is doomed for failure.

YOU MUST HAVE A PLAN, or you will not be able to work effectively towards your goal. Its not how much work you do that counts, its how effective the work is that actually counts.

I could work on my resume for 24 hours and spend 3 weeks applying to companies. But, none of that will help me achieve my goal of earning enough money to cover my rent and living costs for March. So my plan must focus on making money quickly as well as more secure longer term income.

Once you have your plan, write it down, just like I am doing on this blog. There is a massive difference in thinking about something and writing it down. If I'm going to make this a success I must write down my plan.

Snippets of my plan:


Select the three abilities I feel can make me money fastest


English language (low income but quick cash and easy to marker in Munich)
Business process consulting (high income but not instant cash - vast experience in this field)
Mentoring/Business coaching (Decent money, medium difficulty in finding clients but possible)

So I have a quick cash method, a more difficult but better cash method and a difficult but secure cash option.

I will not rely solely on these three, but this is where 90% of my effort will focus.

It's strange, but when ever I work hard at something, luck often falls into my lap, so the last 10% of my energy will be saved to ensure I sit back and analyse often to ensure I dont miss these gifts of luck should they pass my way (who knows somebody reading this blog may need my services!)

Step #5

Define what steps you can take today to get you closer to finding your first customer. I do not need 100 customers today. If I got 100 then great but I need to start with ONE, yep just one.

So lets break it down:

English language - where to find customers


Put a hand written sign up in my block of flats.
Ask my friends to do the same
Walk to local schools and ask if they need help or if they can display my sign
Search the internet for Language forums/websites and see if I can list my services for free
Find people who are already doing the job (from listings on the net) and ask their advice

Business Process Consulting


Update my CV (no more then 60 minutes work)
Find a list of consulting companies from the internet and contact them
Use Xing, LinkedIn and Facebook to find other consulting contacts that I can approach

Mentoring/ Business Coaching


Using Xing, LinkedIn etc find local groups where Freelancers meet and I can introduce myself
Go through my old contacts to see who might be a potential customer (or at least obtain references)
Present myself to mentoring agencies

Step #6

Reconnect with old colleagues and find a mentor.

There is nothing like support. None of us can get through life alone, we always need people there to support us, pick us up and push us that little bit further. Colleagues who both you respect and who respect you can be great help at this particular time. I will go through my Xing and LinkedIn contacts as well as some other sources to reconnect with old colleagues. (Strangely after doing this, I found a number of them are in my target businesses so I have found both mentors and possible help to securing work)

I've decided not to tell all my Facebook friends at this time, as some of them will not understand why I am doing this and may try to distract me. My job is to surround myself with people who give me energy towards completing my goal and to stay away from those that suck the positive energy away from me.

There is nothing wrong with my friends, they are after all my friends, but in this situation some of them simply would not understand. So instead of putting my energy into making them understand I simply will not tell them, yet...

Lastly and most importantly is finding a mentor. Mentors cannot be underestimated. As a business coach I offer a sound board to people's ideas and help them think out the box. The knowledge you can gain from a experienced mentor can save you months of hard work trying to figure it out on your own.

I firmly believe in mentors and thus I had my first call with a friend last night. He is pretty successful infinding freelance work that pays well and he offered me great advice on where to start and a short action plan of people I should call (he provided personal contacts too).

Notes on how to work with a mentor (will expand on this in a later post)


You are there to learn, start your case at the start then simply listen - question but dont argue
Mentors can be short term and long term, but make sure none of you are misunderstanding the commitment (my friend knew clearly that 1 hour would be enough - he does not feel used and I truly value his input)
Use my favourite line to end a conversation "I think I should let you go now, I've already taken up so much of your time which you kindly offered me"

I will try to talk to 2 friends/ previous colleagues each week who can offer me great advice towards completing my challenge. (Note, I have full confidence I can achieve this goal, but it's with the great advice from people I respect that I will make sure I make the least mistakes and maybe even get there much faster)

and lastly

Step #7

Take action!

Yep, stop reading and do something today, as written in my plan to make sure success happens.

To many people plan and do all the right background steps but forget to take action. NOT ME...

My aim is to get my first customers, and I'm pretty confident I can do that within a week...

Learn How To Make More Money In Less Time - Why Working 50+ Hours Per Week Is Destroying Your Family


If you love your family, you will read this article.

Do I doubt your love for your family?

Not for a moment.

I am sure you are a person that wants to be an influence in your families life, rather than the stranger that shows up from time to time.

The reason why I make the statement that working 50+ hours per week is destroying your family, simply comes from the fact that if you are not present in your families lives, you are not an influence.

Now, if you are thinking that the 50+ hours is what is required for you to "earn a living" then let's take a serious look at that.

Earning a living, or making enough money to sustain your families welfare is on the surface, an honourable pursuit. If you have to trade too much time for the money you require, then it is only because you are not getting paid enough to work less hours and to make the same money.

Here are some ways you can begin to make more money in less time:

Start your own business and work from home
People are doing this and making enough money to replace their income on a regular business
The tax write-off's are huge
The reduction in your overhead costs like clothing, travel time, vehicle expenses, insurance, food, etc. is huge.
Educate yourself in your field
Become of greater value to the company you work for, take some related courses, they will pay you more if you are worth more to them.
Learn about your competition, learn their strengths and weaknesses and develop a better strategy for your employer, this extra effort will move you up the ranks
Find out where your own company is weak, make yourself strong in that area and get yourself promoted.
Request that your employer allow you to work from home
For this to happen, you must have a job that is not location dependent. Jobs like this exist, do the recommendations in #2 and create this opportunity for yourself.
You will save your employer money
You will save yourself time in commuting
You will reduce your overhead costs
Learn how to be more efficient in your work - this will get you a raise and reduce the amount of time at work.
Plan your next work day before you leave today
Complete the six most important things first, then do the rest on the list.
Allow you to-do list to flow, keep adding to one list and remove the items from it as they are completes. This is the list you will determine the six most important things on.
Stay away from the company chatter; going around and talking with everyone is counter productive, this is robbing you and the company of time and makes you have to stay later to get done what you did not work on while you were chatting.
Take action on one of the four things above, if you do nothing, then nothing will change and likely you will end up working more hours. I rate this list in the order of importance for your consideration.

Figure out a way that you can get back home to be with your family and when you get there, do not just sit down in front of the TV. For you to be an influence, allow your kids to see that you love them, show an interest in what they do. Work with them on their homework, (a real trick to looking smart is have them teach you what they know) instil a good work ethic. Show them how to work smart, not hard.

If you are thinking that you require some special university degree to accomplish what you want to have in life, this is a "sales pitch" that you have decided to buy in to.

You are a person of skill and talent; it is up to you to believe in yourself to make that happen.

How to Make More Money Freelance Writing


One of the things I personally hate is buying an eBook or reading some information from someone who has not actually outworked what they are teaching people. All they have done is taken what someone else has written and rephrased it, there is no proof to go with what they are trying to teach you.

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees (Jewish Leaders) for trying to get their followers to follow laws and do things that the Pharisees themselves were not even doing.

I want to take a different approach. Instead of teaching you something I have read somewhere else and just rephrasing it I have actually gone out and made a full time income through the Freelance Writing and I am now teaching you what has actually worked for me.

So let me tell you a little bit about my story and how I came to make money from freelance writing.

I began trying to make money online in 2006 when I was just 18 years old. I was mainly trying to earn income through blogging and making money from selling advertising on my blogs. In my first 2-3 years of blogging I started at least 20-30 blogs and failed to make a sufficient income. I made $100 in about a one year period and spent about $150 in costs.

I was not successful at making money because I did not really know what I was doing and I did not know the most effective way for me to make money online.

I was living at home and I was also a student, so it did not fuss me too much that I was not earning a lot of money. But then in October 2008 I got married and moved out of home and I had the responsibility of having to pay for rent and living expenses. I had to be able to earn a full time income otherwise I wouldn't be able to eat.

I almost gave up on earning money online completely because I was not making a lot of money and I would have been unable to make ends meet. I was going to go to work full time in a job that I hated and continue to do the online thing in my spare time (if I had any spare time).

Then I discovered freelance writing. I say I discovered it, but really I just got desperate so I tried it. I had already read about it in the past but I had never taken action. I took action and I earned over $300 in my first week (working only 3 days).

This completely changed my plans and I became a full time freelance writer and I was banking $300-$500/week working 3 days per week. I know this is not an incredible amount of money, but I was only working part time and it gave me the freedom to pursue other online ventures (such as blogging, affiliate marketing and creating products).

I then started to get smart and I started using the Freelance Money System to work less an earn the same amount. I could have used it to work the same hours and earn more money, but I wanted to pursue other online endeavors that I enjoyed more than freelance writing. I will be talking about the methods that I used to halve my working hours and still earn the same amount of money.

Currently I do not do as much freelance work as I was doing earlier. I am now earning money from other sources such as blogging, affiliate marketing, list building, website flipping and creating products. This is not because I could not make enough money as a freelance writer but is was because I enjoy doing these other things more.

I still freelance write occasionally and often use this method to earn an extra $100-$200 whenever I need it. It is a great source of extra income and I am really looking forward to teaching you the methods that I use to make money from freelance writing. I can easily earn $30-$40/hour freelance writing casually and I know that if I started to take it seriously again and to use the Freelance Money System full time I could rake it around $50-$100/hour.

3 Ways for Home Improvement Contractors to Make More Money


There are many ways for a home improvement contractor to increase his profits without diminishing his workmanship or quality of the job. Three ways are discussed below.

1. Check your material. If you are like many small or medium sized contractors, you only use a few different suppliers to get your building material. Perhaps you did some research initially, landed with these few material suppliers because it made sense at the time and you've been using them ever since. But, does using them still make sense? Are they more expensive than other suppliers that you could be using? Shop around. Tell other suppliers what you are paying now ans ask if they will beat it. Of course, you want to make sure that you are comparing apples to apples and that you are considering the entire net cost of switching.

You may also want to tell your current supplier(s) that you may be buying elsewhere. There's no harm in doing this. Simply call your sales rep and say, "Hey, just wanted to give you a heads up that I'm starting to look at some different prices of some different suppliers. It's nothing personal, but I wanted to let you know in case you there was something you could do to work with me on the pricing." Your salesman will appreciate your honesty, especially if he works on commission, as most do.

The more material you buy from the supplier, the more clout your demands will have. Still, it never hurts to ask or ask around.

2. Ask for more. This may seem silly or obvious, but it is true. Many contractors simply shortchange themselves unnecessarily. The fact is that many homeowners will gladly pay extra for quality work. They will pay extra for peace of mind and to use someone that they feel comfortable with. This isn't to say that you should charge double the market rate but before you slash your profit margin, make sure the potential customer understands what he is getting. Talk with him. Explain the work you will be performing. Walk him through it, point things out, discuss the project at length so that he has confidence in you that you will get the job done and get it done right and on time.

If you sell on price, the homeowner will only buy on price. This means that your price needs to be low. If the homeowner makes it all about price from the start, don't waste your time placating the situation. Ask the homeowner what he is looking to spend or what his other estimates were for. If you are in the ballpark, proceed. If not, it's not worth it and you didn't waste any time or resources.

Don't assume that every customer is price shopping. Some are quality shopping and will pay a price for that quality. Those that are price shopping still may become customers of profitable jobs, but you should find out up front.

3. Remember the x-factors. You never wan to minimize your profits simply because you are adding things up incorrectly. Your estimates need to account for unexpected contingencies and situations that could cost you more. Remember to account for waste and miscellaneous expenses. There is no sense in estimating things down to the penny unless you plan on running a perfect job with no setbacks or job site issues.

This may mean that you add in more extra time for your employees or that you add in for extra labor for. your subcontractors. You may figure out that you need to simply add 5% to all of your estimates to make them more reasonably profitable and less risky. Depending on the nature of your home improvement services, your x-factors may be rain delays or dumping fees. Either way, account for them in your estimates.
